At a conference in Casablanca this week decision-makers from across North & West Africa met to discuss opportunities for investment in gas infrastructure, project pipelines & strategies for implementation. The ‘Gas Options: North & West Africa’ conference took place at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Casablanca from 29-30 November.
Distinguished speakers included H.E. Hon. Patrick Eyogo Edzang, Minister of Water and Energy in Gabon, and from Morocco, Abderrahim El Hafidi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development and Acting Director General of the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) & Amina Benkhadra, Director General, National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM).
Ghana’s H.E. Hon. William Owuraku Aidoo, Deputy Minister for Power, Ministry of Energy provided a presentation on the country’s gas sector and from Nigeria insights were given from Engr. Ibrahim A. Bagudu (FNIMechE), GM, Planning & Business Development, Gas & Power Directorate, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Private sector companies in attendance included Siemens, Clarke Energy, ENGIE, White & Case, Shell, Cheniere, Total, Wärtsilä Energy Solutions, Jacobs Engineering & Karpowership, who shared their knowledge of the industry.
The conference focused on project updates in North & West Africa plus opportunities for collaboration between regions to maximise the potential of the vast gas markets and accelerate economic development.
Sessions focused on Morocco’s Gas to Power programme, the role of LNG in facilitating gas development, opportunities for the implementation of IPP Procurement Programmes & regional case studies looking at the unique gas environments of Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Nigeria and Morocco.
