Baker Hughes has secured two awards from Venture Global covering gas transportation and liquefaction equipment for the Plaquemines LNG expansion in Louisiana. The work links a feed gas pipeline with additional processing capacity at the export site, extending the companies' collaboration across both sides of the LNG supply chain.
For the Cloud Connector Pipeline, Baker Hughes will supply 13 gas compression systems driven by Frame 5/2E gas turbines. The packages will support the movement of natural gas to the Plaquemines facility. Baker Hughes describes the order as one of the largest deployments of this equipment for LNG feed gas transportation in the United States. It is the second order of these turbine-driven centrifugal compressor packages for Venture Global's pipeline infrastructure and will bring the fleet serving Plaquemines to 23 systems.
A separate award covers a modular liquefaction solution for the planned expansion of the Plaquemines LNG plant. Baker Hughes will provide four liquefaction blocks comprising eight modules in total, together with cold boxes. Each block is based on two electric-motor-driven, single mixed-refrigerant modules and associated compression trains, incorporating centrifugal compressors, air coolers and integrated controls.
The combination of pipeline compression and liquefaction equipment is intended to align incoming gas supply with the additional production capacity. Baker Hughes said the liquefaction scope follows a similar package recently awarded for Venture Global's CP2 project. The latest orders deepen a relationship that spans existing and proposed LNG developments, for which Baker Hughes says it supports more than 100 million tonnes per year of capacity.
The awards underline the engineering required upstream of an LNG loading berth: feed gas must arrive at the plant reliably and at suitable pressure before it can be chilled and converted to liquid for export. Venture Global is advancing the Plaquemines expansion as part of its wider US LNG programme. The companies did not specify a commissioning date or disclose the value of the two awards in their announcement.
