Fuman Oilfield, China's largest ultra-deep oilfield, achieved cumulative production exceeding 20 million tons of oil and gas equivalent, making it a "deep-earth benchmark" for high-quality exploration and development in complex formations deeper than 8,000 meters.

Located in the heart of the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang, Fuman Oilfield is the largest ultra-deep marine fault-controlled fractured-vuggy carbonate reservoir discovered in China. With a burial depth of 7,000–10,000 meters, it is universally recognized as an "exploration-forbidden zone" due to its extremely complex geological conditions such as ultra-deep burial, ultra-high temperature, ultra-high pressure, and high hydrogen sulfide content.

CNPC addressed the world-class challenges by strengthening geology-engineering integrated research, developing the innovative fault-controlled reservoir-forming theory of ultra-deep marine carbonate rocks, and established a comprehensive technological system for ultra-deep oil and gas exploration and development technology system. Driven by dual innovations in both technology and management, Fuman Oilfield has achieved sustained and rapid output growth – surpassing 1 million tons in 2019 and 4 million tons in 2023.
